Local Amenities
Supermarkets
Supermarkets can be found in Shepton Mallet (Tesco), Street (Sainsbury’s), Glastonbury (Morrisons and Tesco) and Wells (Waitrose, Morrisons and Tesco). There’s also brilliant organic supermarket in Glastonbury called Earthfare.
Bakeries
There is a wonderful bakery in Lovington called Lievito. They are currently open from 9am-1pm and they do delicious almond croissants, doughnuts as well as delicious freshly baked bread.
Fara in Glastonbury is our go to destination for coffee and cake or brunch. They do get busy at the weekends but it’s worth the wait.
The Old Creamery at Castle Cary train station has recently been opened by The Newt in Somerset and does fantastic breakfasts and lunches. There is also a wonderfully smart farm shop selling lots of local produce.
If you are planning to head into Bruton don’t miss the bakery At The Chapel. It’s actually worth going to Bruton just for a pastry!
Local Ingredients
If you just wanted to pop out for basics (milk, butter, eggs, cheese) there’s a little farm shop in East Pennard open every day. You couldn’t get more local milk! Jon Thorners Farm Shop is in Pylle and is great for local produce. Middlewick Farm Shop and Café near Glastonbury is also worth a visit as is the organic supermarket, Earthfare, on Glastonbury High Street.
Nearby towns and villages to visit
If you wanted to have a look at some of the lovely villages and towns in the area and perhaps have some lunch or a coffee we would recommend Bruton or Frome. They are both lovely market towns with plenty of fantastic individual shops, tea rooms and cafes. Frome has a market on the first Sunday of every month – it is huge and packed full of local and independent craft and food producers – we highly recommend a visit.
Glastonbury, Castle Cary and Wells are equally great places to visit. Wells has a stunning cathedral which it is famous for and great boutique shops as well as a selection of good restaurants. There is a good little farmers market here which takes place on a Wednesday.
Clarks Village in Street, is an outlet shopping complex and has over 100 shops and restaurants.
Many of the surrounding towns are well worth a visit and Bath has a lot to offer with its famous Spa, Roman Baths, theatre and restaurants.
